Printing From a Palm

student printing

If you have a printer with an IR port you can print text from various Palm software programs. Some of these programs include: Word documents and Memos. If your students type in FreeWrite and you want them to be able to print, they can copy their text to the clipboard and print using PrintBoy.

Follow these steps to print:

  1. Type the text you want to print.
  2. Make sure your printer is turned on and there is paper in the tray.
  3. Align your Palm's IR port with the printer's IR port.
  4. Tap the "Print" icon from the home screen of your Palm.
  5. Tap "Memos" (or the program you used to type your text)
  6. Tap the filename that you want to print.
  7. Tap "print."
  8. Occasionally there will be an error when printing. Reset the Palm and try again. It always works the second time.
Carl sent an email about printing from Palms in March 2005:

"Printboy software is necessary for you to be able to print from a Palm to the printer you recently acquired. Remember, the intent for the printer is Palm printing only, not Network or Workstation printing. The printer need only be plugged into an outlet and will be ready for use after you install the attached file on the computer you use for syncing. Once this is done and you sync, you will have printing capability on the Palm.

Note....During the install of this device on your syncing computer, choose only HP LaserJet drive and HP Driver (TruePage) as the components to install and skip the registration question. After you Sync you should see Printer and Printer Setup as choices on your Palm icons. Choose Printer Setup and Select HP Laser Jet & Compatibles and Set As Default. If you choose the HP & Compatibles (TruePage) it is a better quality, but much slower.

Let me know if you have any problems... :)Carl"
