Over the last 10 lessons we have discussed a variety of issues that relate to the Rights of the Child Convention. Now I would like to hear your comments on the nature and form of this email project. To remind you, here are the topics we have covered: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WEEK 1: "Children Rights Lesson Plan + Introduction Supplementary" Aims: to introduce the general topic of children's rights and the UN Convention on Child Rights (1989) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WEEK 2: "Kids and Water Lesson Plan" Aim: to get kids and adults thinking about the part water plays in our daily lives and our access to water. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WEEK 3: "Keep Us Safe Lesson Plan" Aim: To introduce kids and adults to the problems of child labour, armed conflict, refugees, discrimination, abuse, neglect, and exploitation and the law. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WEEK 4: "We are what we eat Lesson Plan" Aim: to introduce the topics of food and nutrition in relation to children's lives and across cultures. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WEEK 5: "Street Kids Lesson Plan" Aim: to allow kids and adults to discuss the problems of homeless and deprived children both in their local areas and abroad. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WEEK 6: "Health and Education Lesson Plan" Aim: to discuss the problems and benefits of health care and education in the local area and compare it to other countries. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WEEK 7: "Children with Disabilities Lesson Plan" Aim: to discuss the attitudes, prejudices, and difficulties children with disabilities face and what the local community can do to work with them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WEEK 8: "Developing Country Focus" Aim: to discuss and write about some or all the previous weeks' topics but using one foreign (developing) country as a comparison to our own. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WEEK 9: "Global Environment" Aim: To encourage children to discuss and understand the links between environmental issues locally and in other parts of the world. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WEEK 10: "UNICEF Review" Aim: to recap and expand upon some or all of the previous week's sessions, mini-projects, discussions etc.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Which topics did you enjoy the most and why? Which topics did you enjoy the least and why? Did you find any of the topcs hard to understand? Would you have liked more information? What suggestions and improvements would you make if this project was to start again? Did you manage to undertake any community-based action e.g. newspaper articles, letters to local politicians? How did you get on? If you didn't manage, what problems did you face? How do you think you could carry out comunity-based action in the future? What would you like to see happen with all your discussions (IRC) and messages (email) e.g. sent to UNICEF Headquarters and/or turned into a publication (book, report, newsletter, magazine article)? Would you like to help write and edit such a publication? How could KIDLINK 'adults' help to get all your views heard? |
