Comparing Class Size

Hello,

We are Dominique and Davinia. We are in second grade at Delmar. We added the number of students who are in your second grade classrooms and we added our second graders. You have 1 more student in second grade than we do but... we have more classrooms of second graders. Your classrooms hvae more children than ours do.

Nadia, how many students are in your classrooms in Argentina?

Your friends,
Dominique and Davinia

Dear Yosiyuki, Taiki and Pamela,

We clean the school sometimes. We recyle colored paper, white paper, and magazines. I pick paper up that people drop on the floor.

You have more children than us and we have more classrooms. I just added your number of kids and our kids together and it was 271.

Delmar 3rd grade = 124 children in 5 rooms
Rinkan 3rd grade = 147 children in 4 rooms

Your friend,
Ashley

Hello!

My name is Todd. I am 11 years old. I'd hate to clean my school for 20 minutes! We have table washers which are selected once a week. The trash monitors clean up the rooms right before everyone leaves. The janitors do most of the cleaning like the bathrooms and the rooms.

Your Friend,
Todd

Todd,

Thanks for your mail. I'm Yosiyuki writing. We are cleaning at a teacher's room, an entrance of our school, a consultation room, a toilet and passage floor. Yes, we have to clearn so many places in our school. I myself clean a consultation room, now. It is very hard work to clean so many places. You are so happy about this.

Thanks for your mail,
Yosiyuji Takahasi

Dear Mr. Isamu,

Hi! It's me, Vanessa again. We have custodians that clean our schools. At the end of the day they go through the whole schooland vacumm. During the day they clean the halls and cafeteria. In our classes sometimes we will go around just our class and clean it up. In the kindergarten and pre-k they have a special clean up time at the end, the beginning, and the middle of the class. I think that we should go around the school and clean it up instead. What is the holiday today? Please tell me about it. Well, Bye!

Your Friend,
Vanessa

Hello dear Vanessa,

thanks for your mail, and thanks to tell about "custodians". I've heard about this word first. What else the custodians work in your school? They only work as cleaning schools? How many custodians are there in your school?

>What is the holiday today?

Green day. We hope to plant more greens in Japan. It used to be a formar Emperor's birthday. We have two national holiday in May. May 3 and May 5. May 3 is our Constitution Day, May 5 is Children's Day. We have no school next Monday and Tuesday. This year, Constitution day is on Sunday and Children's day is on Tuesday. Monday is also our holiday. Because May 4 is between two national holiday.

For Children's Day, our international class has a party on Saturday May 2. We will have a "Kasiwa moti". This is some kind of rice cake covered with leaf of tree. I'd like to tell the party as taking pictures for you too.

About cleaning school, Yosiyuki writes a little.

Dear Mr. Isamu,

It's me, Vanessa. The custodians in our school also help fix things in classes. For instance, if a teacher has a problem with the air conditioners the custodians will come down and fix or do whatever they need them to do. We have about ten custodians.
[We actually have 5. -Patti]

We have only one holiday in May which is Mothers day. This is a day when mothers can relax and have the children or husband do what they want. So if a mother wants to eat breakfast in bed she can just get someone to make breakfast then serve it to her.

The fifth grade here at Delmar have to take the M.S.P.A.P. which is a test that they have to take for a week. Do you have any test like that? Do you have people who fix your class problems? Do you have mother's day? Well gotta go. Bye!

Your Friend,
Vanessa

Vanessa,

I see, your school has ten custodians to clean rooms and to fix everything in school. How about planting flower seeds or planting trees? Is this also their business?

Mother's day is your holiday? Oh, our Mother's day is not holiday. It is only on Sunday. maybe the second Sunday in May.

M.S.P.A.P is a achievment test ? And you shoud pass the test. For a week? It is so long for you all. But if you finish the test, you are about starting longest holiday.

>Do you have any test like that? No, our students do not have such test as yours. Of course they have to pass the short test for each UNIT.

> Do you have people who fix your class problems? For example, if the lamp did not light up, class teacher would change the lamp. Or if your class have more big problems, vice-principal or principal might to ask someone for volunteer. We have one volunteer who fix that kind of problems.

>Do you have mother's day? Yes, we have like I wrote above. Now there are many red carnations sold in flower shops. Near my house there are many flower gardens that sold carnations or some flowers.

BTW how many days do you go to school in a year? I'm not certain at the time, it is about 224 days a year, students should go to school. I've heard some year ago, it has about 180 days a year US students go to school.

This Saturday, we have lesson even if Saturday. Every second and fourth Saturdays are no school.

Vanessa, thanks for your letter. I always enjoy reading and replying.
