Mr. Bill Pritchett Visits Delmar

The long table in the KIDLINK corner of the Media Center at Delmar holds donated computer hardware that needs a little technical work to make the computers ready for students. Mr. Bill Pritchett sometimes fixes our computers, cures them of viruses, and does whatever else it takes to make them ready for the enthusiastic and excited 5th and 6th graders in our recess telecom program.

That's not why Mr. Bill Pritchett came to Delmar today. He came to meet the 5th and 6th graders he is teaching while using World Wide Web pages. He has been telling them about Maryland's part in the Civil War and more specifically, about two of his relatives who fought in the Battle of Culp's Hill.

The students were happy to meet Mr. Bill and he was eager to answer their questions. Nicole was reading Mr. Bill's newest WWW pages when he arrived and she told him how much she liked the pages. (Nicole knows that Mr. Bill is just learning to make Web pages; she is, too!)

The students have read the poem that Mr. Bill wrote about the two Pritchett boys who went "up to Gettysburg way" and were moved when they read that one of the brothers did not return. Perhaps it is this link to writing and poetry that moved the girls to share their writings with him today when he visited them. Mr. Bill's pocket was soon filled with printed copies of poems and stories by Tessa, Dawn, Holly and Nicole. Gene showed Mr. Bill the map of the Battle of Gettysburg he drew. Follow the links to see the work of the students.

Isn't it amazing how things happen? Mr. Bill, who works for the Wicomico County Board of Education, has volunteered his technical expertise to Delmar and our telecom project and now has moved into the role of online teacher and writing mentor.

The faces of the kids tell it all.......thank you, Mr. Bill!
