Ways to Use Danni the Bear in the Classroom
When Danni the traveling teddy bear arrived at Delmar in late April his schedule was full. He visited 2 kindergarten classes, a 3rd grade homeroom, a 5th grade homeroom, Title 1 computer lab students and students in grades 5 and 6 who come to our open lab in the morning before school and at recess. Kindergarten teacher, Cindy Tardiff, shares her ideas for using Danni in the kindergarten classroom -

In Kindergarten:

  1. we used the globe to locate Brazil and Delmar, MD
  2. we wrote a class letter about our excitement over the visit
  3. we brought our own teddy bears to school for a bear party
  4. we talked about our bears and why they are special
  5. we sorted our bears by size, color, clothing (or not)
  6. we viewed Danni's web pages with the help of fifth-graders and sent him email

Other things we might have done:

  1. graph the results of sorting our bears
  2. write a story about Danni's visit and/or the party
