"Geographical Comparisons"

Objectives:

• Students will qualify their definition of "island" and verify that Great Britain and Ireland are also islands.
• Students will research and identify the geographic addresses of their home city as well as those for the cities which will be visited during the Waimalu School tour during March and April, 1999.
• Students will discover and identify the climate and time zones for Hawaii, Great Britain, and Ireland.
• Students will understand the influencing factors of climate.
• Students will calculate the square area of each island.

Materials:

• student pairs ( or triples - no singles)
• computer sign up schedule
• pencils
• paper for printing
• outline maps of Hawaii, Oahu, Great Britain, Ireland
• copy of travel itinerary
• colors (crayolas, markers, paints, pencils, or pens)
• encyclopedias
• dictionaries
• computers with Internet capabilities
• Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) signed by a parent
