Inquiry-Based Learning

1. The driving question: How much of your life is influenced by the fact that you live on an island?
2. Investigations:

• How is life for someone your age the same on other islands?
• How is it different?
• What makes it the same or different?
• How big is your island compared to other islands?
• What would you like to show someone about your island?

1. Products/Artifacts:

• charts

• pictures
• games

1. Learning Communities: Oahu, Ireland, Great Britain, Others (email messages have gone out through KIDLINKS to anyone living on an island to join this project)
2. Use of Cognitive Tools

Keypals: Students will participate in communication with children their age in Ireland and Great Britain. These primary sources of information will provide the Waimalu students with the perspective on the issues they will include in their final presentations.

Resource: The Internet will be used to gather current information that would otherwise be time consuming to locate or unobtainable. Students will continue to pursue sources in the classroom and the Waimalu library which are easily accessible and constant in their reliability.

Cooperative Challenge: Students will work together to solve the problems, to locate information, and to prepare their presentations.
