Student Answers To Causes Of The War

From Tessa Newhouse:

1) People who owned slaves would not want to give up their way of life because they thought they needed slaves to run the plantation; they didn't want to do the work themselves.

2) The average private in the Confederate army might want to go to war because they would defend what they thought, and that is important.

3) I think citizens of a country should be willing to fight for freedom, rights, and less racism or sexist thoughts in the government.

From Quinnisha Smith:

The men would go to war with each other because everyone has a different opinion.

The war was fought to free the slaves but the only reason they freed the slaves was so they could fight in the war and there was no freedom then because you had to fight whether you liked it or not because they drafted young men and others were drafted.

The rebels used that for an excuse I think.

They could have prevented the Civil War by giving everybody freedom.

I think the people who owned the slaves were too lazy to do the work themselves and if it was to much work for them they could have asked for help and if nobody wanted to help they should have expected that.

To fight for something that doesn't belong to anybody but "GOD".

They should fight for their rights, freedom, and freedom of religion which we already have.

Quinnisha Smith

From Amanda Tillman:

1) Well, people who owned slaves hardly did any work. So if they had to give up their slaves they would have to hire people to do the work, and pay them or do the work themselves. People who owned slaves also made a lot of money.

2) Maybe because he wanted to win so that the South could have slaves without anyone telling them that that was wrong because they had won the war. This was a very complicated question to me so I you don't understand my answer that is okay.
