Back After a Great Trip!

Hello Trekkies!

Well, we made it back after a great trip with an excellent group of Trekkers. Our computer with all our telecom software wouldn't boot up so we were unable to establish our Internet Live link. We had to use available fax machines and that worked as long as we were in bukit Lawang, the first 5 days. After that, we were too far from a Wartel office to fax or else the charges were outrageously expensive so we continued to write but decided to wait to post until our return. We learned a lot about the limits of technology when travelling in remote areas. Phone connectors don't work, lines seem to connect but then go dead (you still get a phone bill for dead air time), so perhaps the fax is the best we can do for the future treks. Thanks to my wife, Chris, for re-typing all our faxes and posting them to the Internet and to Sandbyte!

Chris is typing up pages of our mail which we will post on KIDPROJ and to our web pages. We will get as much out as we can before the Eid vacation, then continue afterwards. If you run across a Trekker friend, ask to read their journal- they wrote extensively each evening. Hope you enjoyed and continue to enjoy our reports from the rainforest. HORAS!
