The Thames Bubbler

by: Michael Wallis

Dear Mrs Weeg,

I know my homework is late but its here now and I will try to be on time next time.

The river Thames is near my flat. I have lived in London for six years now and the river has been getting dirtier and lots of fish die from pollution.

As you might know London has been very hot this summer. This heats the water and Mr Burleigh says that water loses lots of its oxygen when it heats up. (try an experiment with a glass of water and warm it slowly and watch the bubbles the water gives off).

The fish need the oxygen so there have been lots of dead fish on the surface of the river.

Only now the Thames water Company have taken some thought to this problem and a boat they call 'The Thames Bubbler' pumps oxygen into the river Thames water so that the fish can live.

Michael,

Thank you for telling us about the Thames Bubbler! Do you think you might be able to take a picture of it for our pages here?

I was very hot here in Maryland this summer as well and we have just had our first rain in weeks! The corn and soybean crops are severly damaged. Some farmers will turn to other ways to make a living. We cannot blame them.

Olya's hard disk crashed so she is behind in her assignments too. I think we can forgive her though, don't you?

Mrs. Weeg
