"Shipwreck in a Bottle" Recovered

Delmar 5th graders made a "Shipwreck in a Bottle" early in the school year with Jamie Wilkerson and 'crew.' Their science teacher placed their bottle in the bottom of his pool where it stayed all year. They opened it during the IRC on Friday.

During the IRC I had to be involved in proctoring our statewide tests in grade three. I talked to the girls, my principal and their teachers and we all agreed that the girls could do this on their own without me since another teacher was in the her lab across the media center. The girls did just fine and carried on without me. I am so proud of them!

Thank you, Jamie, for planning this project!

************************ The Ship Wreck Returns ************************

We started to open our bottle at 10:30 a.m. Today we took our Ship wreck in the bottle out of Mr. Lingo's pool. The stuff inside smells really bad. Some of the paint has come off and it is turning brass. The clothes have been dirty and stained and you can't get the stain out. The crayon paper has come off the crayon. The shells have got softer than they were. Now if you pull on the shell it will break. The sticks have turned black and they are easy to peel. The water got dirty and muddy and the paper clip has turned brownish brass. The comb and brush have sand all over them. The penny has turned black and some is still brown. We are on the line writing to people and telling them about our Ship Wreck in a bottle project. The pretty green dress is now ugly and smelly. The writing on the crayon has gone away. The sticks are easy to break now. And the seed from the tree turned black and the stuff inside is just liquid instead of soild. Thats all about our ship wreck in a bottle!

The ship wreck in the bottle ****************************

When we opened the bottle it did not smell very good. The gold anchor stayed the same. The sea shells were dirty and wet, but no damage was done. The Barbie clothes changed colors. Everything was muddy. Rhae stuck her hand in it. The pennies turned black. The rocks stayed the same. The Barbie shoes stayed purple. The bark came off the wood. That is all we put in our bottle.

Researh for shipwreck in a bottle

When we opened the bottle it smelled very gross. When we observed the individual things I saw that the metal things had rusted. The pencil was all decayed and green. The stickes were all wet and black, the seashells were all dirty and wet, the dirt had turned to mud, the rocks were wet, the ring was wet, the Barbie clothes had a stain of brown and wet, the crayon was decayed and was wet, the penny had turned completely black and was wet. The Barbie shoe was all decayed.
