Mike is the KIDPROJ list moderator and teaches at The Cedars Primary School in London, United Kingdom. He has been our favorite UK teacher for the past three years. Our two schools are twinned and the 'Twinning' project was one of the AT&T/TIME contest winners this spring.
In May of 1993 Mike took nine Delmar students on a virtual tour of the River Thames and that lesson went on to win national recognition here in the United States. Mike visited Salisbury in August 1994 and met those students face to face in front of TV cameras. It was quite an emotional day! We all were touched by his warmth and genuine interest in our students.
During his visit to Maryland we made sure Mike had a chance to taste our favorite Maryland summertime food.... steamed crabs! Mike learned quickly how to eat the crabs 'properly' and is ready to eat yet another one as you can see in this photo.
An article in the Shore Journal this week written by Michael Paparella gives a description of the pasteurization process that helped extend the shelflife of crabmeat. One of the Eastern Shore's own, George Clifford Byrd from Crisfield, is responsible for this pasteurization process.
We look forward to Mike's return this August when he will once again join me in teaching courses in telecommunications at Salisbury State University's Summer Technology Academy.
