The Value of Mentors

The Participants express their thoughts...

Did you like the idea of having a mentor or two (or three)? Did they help you in any way?

"YES, YES"

"It was a really good idea, especially if you had never done this before. The only difficulty I had with it was time. It did provide the opportunity and the necessity to become familiar with the use of e-mail."

"The mentors were helpful and fun."

I was so slow in catching on that I really didn't talk very much to them."

"I did receive help from my Mass. mentor regarding useful sites. He wrote me a few times and seemed genuinely interested. He would be a good mentor for someone else."

The mentors added a nice touch to the class as we looked forward to hearing and writing to them. There probably wasn't enough time to learn as much as we could or would have liked to!!"

"Yes, mentors were a good idea. I didn't get as much utility from the idea as I could have. My absence and lack of access during other than class time severely limited my ability to take advantage of the opportunity."

"The mentors were okay but I don't think that 2 or 3 were needed to learn how to receive and send mail, especially with the small amount of time in which we had to learn all of the information."

"My problem was that I never felt like I had enough time to send messages to them and then I would feel guilty about it."

"I enjoyed this experience because I enjoy commuicating with people learning new ideas etc."

"The mentors were interesting from the different areas. Just sharing information and reading what they do was helpful."

"Yes, they really made the e-mail process fun to learn about as we needed the skills to reply!"

"Yes, they were o.k., but it seemed like a lot of work when we could have written our classmates and possibly met some of our fellow teachers. This would have been basically the same thing with less work on your part."
