(It was really your winter!)

Dear Mr. Dave and Mr. Matt,

HI!!!!!!!!!!!I am great. I had a wonderful summer. Me and Caitlin did just about everything together. I went swimming in my pool all the time. I also when to Ocean City (not with Caitlin) and played miniature golf, watched the charter boats and walked on the boardwalk. I also ate A LOT. I have to go. Bye!!!

Your friend,
Steph

Dear Mr. Dave and Mr. Matt,

Hello. How are you? I am fine. What have you been doing this summer? Of course I know it hasn't really been summer there. But it has been here. I had a busy summer. I went to Pennsylvania to visit my Aunt and Uncle, I went to a horseback riding camp, I went to hockey camp, I went to Lewes to visit my Best Friend, and the rest of the time I was mostly at Stephanie Palmer's house. How cold has it been there? Well I have to go!!!!!

Your Friend,
Caitlin

Hi Caitlin and Steph(anie),

I am glad you two had a good time over the summer. It sounds like you had some good summertime activities, but I will have to wait a while before I get to go to Ocean City. I hope Thrashers does not close before I get back.

The summer there is the winter here, so Caitlin's question should be what I have been doing this winter. Well it was dark, cold, windy and snowy. The temperatures have been bouncing around 0 to -30, but we have some light now. The sun came up in August, but it was a few weeks before I saw the sun.

I tried something neat this winter. I went outside on a calm day, when it was about -30F, and blew bubbles from my Barney bubble pipe. It was really neat, because the bubbles froze solid. When they hit the ground and starting rolling in the breeze, they broke like glass, then the wind carried the pieces away. I have been told that you can pick them up, and stick your finger in the bubble, and they do not break, but just have a hole where you stick your finger in.

Dave

Dear Mr. Dave & Matt,

Hi! How are you? I'm fine. Mrs. Weeg showed us a pacemaker. I'm glad you are coming in December. Are you going to join the money around the world project? What coutry do you live in? Have you heard of a place in South Africa called Bloemfontein?

Regards,
Gene

P.S. Write Back
Soooooooooooon!

Hi Gene,

I am doing fine. Matt is planning his itinerary far in advance, and I believe he is going to try to visit Delmar in December. I do not plan that far in advance, and have not even decided what I am going to do tomorrow. If I am around when he visits, I may also visit at the same time.

I do not think I will be participating in the money project. I live in the USA, but I have just not been there in a long time. I have never heard of Bloemfontein, is that a new country?

Thanks for writing,
Dave

Dear Mr. Matt and Mr. Dave,

You have never met me before my name is Jarrett Tillman. I was here before in fifth grade but then I had to stop for the summer. I am 10 going on 11 September 26. Mrs. Shaner class is my teacher. I heard you are coming in December. I will be here to see you I hope. I hope we get to do a lot of things like "Money around the World". You probably know Ms. Weeg went to Brazil. Well she brough some of Brazil's money back. They have holes in them but they are still cool. I hope you come and if you do see you later.

Sincerely,
Jarrett Tillman

[Mrs. Weeg brought back some Danish money with holes in it.]

Hi Jarrett,

Money with holes in them, that is different. I wonder why they have the holes? I hope you enjoy working in Ms. Weeg's computer room. She has a lot of fun activities. Last year I heard there was a waiting list to use the computers. When I visited last year, I did not get to see all the kids. Hopefully when I visit I will get to meet you.

Dave

Dear Mr. Dave and Mr. MAtt

How are you ? I'm fine. My name is Christina Nolker. Is Antartica fun? I would love to go there sometime. What do you eat, and what is your favorite food? My favorite food is Macaroni and Cheese, Pizza, and Fettecheene Alfrado. I'm 10 going on 11. My birthday is December 18, 1985. When is your birthday? How old are you? How did you get there? What do you wear?

YOUR FRIEND,
CHRISTINA NOLKER

Hi Christina,

I am doing better now, but I have been sick this last week. The new people we received must have brought some new germs in with them. I am 43 years old, but I still do not know what I want to do when I grow up. My birthday is in June.

They have all kinds of food here, but I really miss good Pizza, good spaghetti, and good hot-dog buns. Can you imagine eating in your school cafeteria every meal, every day for a year? That is what is like here. I like the days they have macaroni and cheese, it is pretty good if you put lots of ketchup on it. We have good Heinz Ketchup here now, but for a while they had other catsup, as well as Australian ketchup.

In getting here, I flew for about 24 hours to New Zealand. In New Zealand, they issued me special cold weather clothes, and them I got on a big military transport plane on skis for the 8 hour trip here. I spend most of my time indoors, so I wear normal clothes. When I go outside, I wear heavy cold weather clothing.

Dave

Dear Mr. Matt and Mr.Dave,

Hi my name is John Griner. I'm 10 turning 11 November 23. I want to be a baseball player. I want to know what happened to your coffee Mr. Dave. I like fishing. How is the fishing in Antarctica? Got to go. Bye.

Your Friend,
John

Hi John,

I hear that Delmarva now has a baseball team and stadium. I bet you have seen them play. I never have been a big baseball fan, but I may have to go to one of the games next summer. I have not been fishing here. In the summer some scientists do some fishing to get fish for experiments. Last year in the aquarium I saw some big Antarctic Cod that they had caught and put in the tanks.

You must be referring to the coffee I had last fall. I was camping on the ice shelf during the Snow Craft School. In the morning, I got up and started the cook stove to fix some coffee. It took forever to melt snow and boil the water, and then I could not get the instant coffee to stay in the cup due to the wind. Once I got the coffee made, I set the cup down to put my gloves on. When I picked up the cup, there was ice all over the cup.

Dave
