Russian Kulich

a recipe from Olya

Dear Patti,

I wrote a letter for Mrs. Elder's kids. Their questions to me is very nice and sometimes it's fun. ;-) I asked them to tell me about special food and customs at Easter. Maybe you can tell me something too? ;-) Do you want a recipe of Russian kulich? What do you use to colour eggs? What other meals do you have at Easter? Tomorrow is Sasha's birthday. It's strange that family's holiday and Easter is at the same day at this year, isn't it? Well, I have a lot of question but I think I must stop ;), so

Lots of love
and
best wishes,
Olya

Dear Patti,

I have received letters from your kids and I'll try to write back soon. I promised to give you a recipe of kulich and here it is:

add 100g of butter, 2 eggs and 2-3 tablespoons of sugar to 1kg of yeast dough, then put the dough in warm place for hour. Then add poppy-seeds, raisins, dried lemon peel or candied fruits. Fill 1/3 of the mould with the dough and then put it in warm place for hour again. After that bake dough for 5-10 minutes.

Then you can pour kulich with chocolate or icing.

I hope you'll enjoy your kulich-cake! It's really tasteful! ;)

Best wishes,
Olya
