Time Travel?

"I am living your tomorrow..." Mr. Dave

Hi Jordan,

I am doing fine, but I really feel silly. Here is the first sunset of the year, and I slept through it. I am working the early shift, and start at 6 AM. My buddy Matt is working the late shift until midnight. He saw the sunset and even took some pictures. The sun set a few minutes before midnight, and rose again about 2 AM. Maybe I can talk Matt into telling us all about it.

Thanks for writing,
Dave

Hi Jack,

I think if you draw a picture of the sundial it would be enough. I slept throughout the first sunset of the year. Boy do I feel silly. I am starting work at 6 AM, so staying up to midnight to see the sunset is really hard for me. My buddy Matt took a picture which Ms. Weeg put on the Web. Maybe I can talk Matt into telling us about the sunset.

Thanks for writing,
Dave

Hi Ashley,

Although I slept through the sunset I am excited about it. This means that the seasons are changing. It is already getting colder here. Almost all week the temperatures have been running 0 to 10 degrees. It will be getting colder and less sun each day. Soon we will have months without sun.

Thanks for writing,
Dave

Hi Jordan,

That sounds great that you have a sundial. Now you have a model for you and Jack. Jack said that you were working together on the project. Now that you have a model, possibly you can draw a picture of a 24 hour sundial for Antarctica. Do you think that a sundial like yours would work down here for the hours that are marked on your sundial?

Thanks for writing,
Dave

Hi Eric,

I did not mail the letter before I finished it, but the days are confusing. Right now as I type, it is Sunday afternoon at 4:45 PM, but where you live, it is Saturday evening at 10:45 PM. In other words you are living my yesterday, and I am living your tomorrow. Is this time travel?

Thanks for writing,
Dave

Hi Katie and Ashley,

The snow is not getting on my nerves, you certainly have received more that we have here. The difference is your snow melts, and our snow builds up for centuries.

The penguin was an Adelie, which is about 18 inches tall. It was standing on an ice floe cleaning its feathers. I took a picture of the penguin with my film camera. I can't get the film back to the states for processing until September. The first week of September is now the scheduled Winfly, which stands for Winter Fly. We will have no mail in or out until that time. I will not get home until October or November.

The wind has been blowing hard for several days now, and as I was on the hill at the station today, I noticed the sea ice has been breaking up and blowing out to sea. This means the open water is getting closer. If the water opens to McMurdo we should see more penguins and whales. I will get some digital camera pictures if that happens.

My son Zac is staying at home with his mom, dog and cat. I miss them all.

Thanks for writing,
Dave

Hi Rhae,

I have seen many sunrises and sunsets. I always like to watch them, but it the first sunset here was too late for me. Thanks to Matt, we now have a picture that we all can enjoy. Thank you very much for forgiving me for my sleep.
