Dear Patti,

I am happy to receive a big letter from you! I like this
books and now I am reading "Misty of Chincoteague" and
trying to color another book together with Sasha. He and my
dad don't read Sasha's book, but they will begin soon I
think. Marguerte Henry's book is interesting. It's good to
see pictures of you, Leslie and her friends too! Well,
thank you very much
for your air mail.

                                Bye - bye,
                                       Olya and Sasha

Dear Patti,

Right in the evening we began to read about Misty. She
understands quite well, even when words are unfamiliar
to her she can guess their meaning almost perfectly before
looking for them in the dictionary. I have only to correct
her pronouncing from time to time. This is why I would ask
you to send some recorded voice examples for her in order
that she could adjust her speech with these.

Warm heartfelt greetings to you all,

Sergei Malykh

To: olya@kids.ubd.e-burg.su (Olya Malykh) Date: Sun, 6 Aug 1995 06:43:09 -0400 (EDT) Olya, It is good to hear from you again. I'm so happy that your e-mail is all fixed now. Are you going away on vacation? Today I go to the airport in Baltimore ( about 2 hours away) and meet Mike Burleigh from the United Kingdom. He and I are teaching some classes of teachers about telecommunications. I will tell them all about you and our project too! ;-) One of the first things we will do is talk about Maryland's geography. Then we will talk about the very first Marylanders. Do you think you know who they are? ;-) Help me remember.... you can see the WWW in text only using lynx, yes? Can you sometimes see the WWW in full graphics and color.... at your dad's work? Leslie will be another pupil in your 'virtual class' this year for the Maryland Project. Here are some questions to start thinking about: 1. Maryland is bordered by what states? 2. Who were the very first Marylanders? warm hugs, Patti
Date: Fri, 11 Aug 95 22:19:36 +0500 Subject: Answers Dear Patti, I have long summer vacations - 3 months and they are June, July and August. I shall go to school on September, 1. I have read about first Marylanders in your coloring book but I don't understand what country did send those settlers under leadership of Leonard Calvert. And I know that people, sent by second Lord Baltimore sailed on ships named Dove and Ark. My maps is not very easy to use, but I have found that Maryland is bordered by Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia and Pensilvania. Yes, I can see WWW text using lynx (remote client). I beleive that sometimes I can see the WWW in full graphics and color at my dad's work. Should we send you carbon copies of our correspondence with Leslie really? Or do you mean e-mail copies? Because I have no a printer at hand. And guess that Leslie too. We are learning here with Sasha how to create the WWW pages. Bye-bye, Olya
Date: Sat, 12 Aug 1995 21:09:37 -0400 (EDT) Cc: delmar@metnet.epflbalto.org, pweeg (Patricia A. Weeg) Olya, Congratulations! You have guessed the 4 states that border Maryland. Yes, they are Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia and West Virginia. I have a map of Maryland and the USA and I hope to make a Web page with them soon. I will also send you a map of the USA and Maryland soon. Now... I am getting ahead of my schedule because I want us to spend some time talking about Maryland's geography but I will give you these ideas to think about. ;-) You are nearly correct when you mention the Ark and the Dove and Leonard Calvert in our discussion of the first Marylanders. These settlers came from England in 1634. But.... when the settlers arrived they found that they were not the first to inhabit the land. Whom do you think they found there when they arrived? I'm sending Leslie a copy of this too (e-mail). warm hugs, Patti
